In-class Flat.io learning -
Even though I have learned Sibelius in college, I rarely needed to use it after graduation. A few times I tried to look into Sibelius again, but was always confused and decided that music notation software just is not my thing. Recently, I discover the Musescore since coming to to school at WCU, and the user friendly feature of the web app helps me rethink the possibility of me operating a notation software. Because my experience with Musescore, learning Flat.io in the class with Dr. Jacoby was that much easier and less intimidating. Even though features on Flat.io are similar to Musescore, all the add-ons (articulation, ornaments, text...etc.) are much easier to use on Flat.io. It's also pretty cool that Flat.io can download the composition into different file types (musicXML, PDF, MIDI, and Wav.) The direct file exporting to Soundtrap is another bonus feature.
In-class Acappella learning -
Acappella was trending among musicians when Covid-19 shut down happened in March. I also explored the app a little after seeing some of my friends posted their projects on social media. It's a cool app for a single musician or fellow musicians to be able to play multiple parts of the music and easily layered them together. While going through some the learning process with Dr. Jacoby, I learned a few more details about the app. For our Found Instruments project, this app definitely makes the recording process easier and cost efficient.
Flat.io & Acapella education application-
Flat.io and Acapella are easy to use and accessible, which is ideal for middle school students. For middle school general music classroom, Flat.io apps can make learning notating and music theory more fun for the students. Teachers can easily type out needed sheet music for different teaching purposes. Those compositions, whether by teacher or students, could easily be shared digitally; which is a bonus when projects needed to be shared on SMART board.
Acapella from PicPlayPost by Mixcord Inc, is a free app that lets you create video clips made up of multiple clips being played at the same time, somewhat like a video collage. Acapella makes performing, recording project and collaboration fun for students. Students can accompany themselves, accompany one another or put together a multi-tracks without much difficulties. Teachers can use the app to inspire students to learn a little about audio-video engineering. Music learning is not just about instruments and notes. How the recordings are made and edited both in audio and video is an important factors of music making, especially in today's music industry.
