Reflection -
In class Screencastify and Premeire Pro learning -
Dr. Jacoby used Lean On Me asynchronous lesson as an example to learn the techniques needed for using Screencastify to record our project. On the Screencastify site, we went through the setting up steps, explore the recording options, and file editing and saving process. I have never used this application prior to this class. It appears to be pretty self-explanatory and user friendly. As a person who is still trying to adapt the idea that music teachers nowadays really need to sync with music technology, I can see myself needing some time to get a hang of Screencastify.
We explored more video editing tools on Premeire Pro. After last lesson, I am more capable in following along Dr. Jacoby's instruction this time, even though I was stuck at the Title creating step. I could not figure out why the format I chose was not typing the words in as I tried. Later on, I just deleted that and selected another one to do and succeeded.
Screencastify Education Application -
"The #1 screen recorder for Chrome. Capture, edit and share videos in seconds." - the description of Screencastify by Google. Screencastify has its own education site built to help educators to use the product for their teaching. There are step by step training for educators to learn the operation in three categorized sections - Getting Started, Getting Better and Getting Bestest. Getting Started section includes Beginner Guiide, and Master the Screencast which comes with video training and certificate. Getting Better section includes 50 Ways to Use Screencastify in the Classroom, Genius!, and 25 ways to use Screencastify with Google Apps. Getting Bestest section includes Keyboard Shortcut, and Master the Screencast, Jr.
All these step are not only helpful for teachers to get the most out of the product, but also helpful for students to learn how to operate Screencastify (in the Master the Screencast, Jr. training). In this digital era, Screencastify surely helps educators put all the information needed for lesson in a more efficient manner. Its easy editing and sharing function surely make it that much easier for consumers to use. The only down side for me is that it could only be run on Google Chrome, as we use Firefox at our houose.
